If you are looking to buy a tree stand that is already made rather than build one yourself, you might not be making a bad move. The quality and affordability of tree stands nowadays makes building your own a less appealing money-saving venture. This is especially true if you don’t already have all the required tools ad materials to build your own.

A good basic cheap tree stand will only run you about $40 in most sporting goods departments. You can find even better cheap tree stands for even cheaper online. These stands are built quality. They have a long-standing reputation and name backing them up. Unless you have a lot of experience welding, you will probably be better off safetywise by going with the tried and tested tree stands built by a manufacturer who has been around for a long time.

If you are looking for a cheap tree stand to save money, consider that the time it takes you to build your own tree stand could be used doing work at your job. Even if you only make $10 an hour, that’s just 4 hours worth of work to be able to buy a tree stand. If it would take you longer than 4 hours to build one, you are better of working and buying one.

Now, this doesn’t take into account the fun and sense of pride and accomplishment that you would get by doing things yourself. But speaking strictly money-wise, if you are looking for a cheap treestand, your best bet is to buy one.

Here are some more plans on how to build a deer stand.  These are pretty simple deer stand plans.  It’s drawn on grid paper where each grid represents 1 foot x 1 foot.

How To Build A Deer Stand

You should use 1.5″ wood screws to attach the plywood to the braces.  These plans were sent to me by e-mail and I haven’t seen any instructions to go along with them.  I’m assuming the 2×4’s are split in half to make 2×2’s to use for the braces.  The sloped roof isn’t necessary but it can increase the lifespan of the deer stand by helping water to drain off of the rofo instead of sitting there soaking into it.  If you put a metal/tin roof on, a slope isn’t important and the life of the stand will be increased even more.

There is an old post over at some other deer hunting forums and the link to the deer blind plans is dead.  If anyone has an updated link to these plans, leave a comment or send an email to eric@deerstandplans.net and I’ll put them back up on this site.

Here is how the post on the other forums reads:

“Do the other members a favor if your downloading my file and post a quick reply to this so it will stay near the top for all to see***Thanks

I have made about 6 deer blinds and finally decided to give something back to the hunting friends for free. Seems like nobody shares stuff anymore. The plans are not done by an architect or builder but by me. They are my plans and I am giving you the permission to use them if you like. They are very easy to follow and the blinds work great. My oldest one is 14 years old now and no leaks. You can build them under 200$ easily in a day or 325-350$ if you want a deluxe model. They can be haulded into back country in panels and put together on the spot if you wish. They are 4×4x6′ tall and my latest one is wind tight with plexiglass windows and get this…Insulation. Good luck to you all and God Bless. Go HERE to download the plans.”

Every hunter in the world is looking for the best trophy, a “Big Buck”. Chances are, some of these enthusiastic hunters will actually have the opportunity to bring down a deer or two. Other hunters will spot these animals and make a shot but unfortunately miss, while others have no luck at all, they don’t detect any whitetail deer movement. Of course, it isn’t all about luck because meticulous preparation is required. Every whitetail deer hunter should comprehend five skills:Stalking – this method consists of following the natural signs and the movement trails of the whitetail deer. This requires the ability to be very quiet so that the deer won’t suspect anything and also it requires basic knowledge of their habits.

Spot & stalk hunting – this is a variation of the stalking hunting technique but in this case the deer has been seen. The whitetail hunter uses his hunting skills in order to get close to the animal as much as he can so that he will have great chances for an efficient shot.

Stand hunting – this technique can be used from a tree or even on the ground. Both techniques require a great deal of patience. The deer hunter sets up his tree stand or he finds a place where he can hide and wait for the animal. With some rigorously pre-season investigation, whitetail deer runs can be easily detected, greatly improving the chances for an efficient hunting season.

Still hunting – with this method, the hunter walks silently then stops to listen and wait for the prey. This still hunting method is recommended when deer haven’t been seen but are known that they are in that area.

Line hunting – this method is used by a group of hunters. The main idea of it is that the deer are flushed out towards a line of whitetail hunters. This cooperative technique can bring great results if done properly.

The choice of weapon for a whitetail deer hunting adventure greatly depends on the area where the hunter lives but basically these animals are hunted with a gun such as a rifle or a shotgun. In some legal circumstances, hunters have the possibility to use muzzleloaders and handguns. Some old-fashioned hunters still use their bows and crossbows for their deer hunting adventure, it can be a very exciting thing to do but at the same time it is way harder in comparison with using a rifle. The bow hunting season usually starts before the regular gun season and will start again after the gun season is over.

Don’t forget about dry clothing as well as waterproof boots because low temperatures and soggy clothes increase the chances of hypothermia. Layers work better to keep you warm rather than bulky items. This also gives you more freedom to move around. Camouflage is very important and it greatly depends on the hunting area. Luckily, camouflage clothing comes in all sizes and shapes you could think of.

All things considered, planning a whitetail deer hunting adventure isn’t as easy as you might have thought but taking things nice and slow you will be fully equipped for a rewarding hunting adventure that you will remember for a long time.

Whitetail deer hunting is one of the most popular hunting genres in the entire world with more and more enthusiasts every year. For a first time whitetail deer hunter it can be a rather difficult thing to do that is why a few tips and tricks about this type of activity are needed in order to start out with decent results.

Experienced hunters recommend checking the hunting equipment when going into the stand, not later when a buck will eventually walk out. Check if your scope is clear, the shells in the chamber or if you use a bow, check if your bow will draw back properly. There are many issues to take into consideration that is why we strongly advise to prepare well ahead.

If you plan on hunting whitetail deer in a food plot or a large field it is recommended to do it during the late hours of the day. Remember that deer like heavy cover so it is advisable to try and clear a path through the cover that you consider these animals might be using. The whitetail deer usually prefers using the easiest routes possible. Once you have set up a path, hunt over the built path in a hunting tree stand.

If using deer calls isn’t your cup of tea ( mainly because you are afraid of scaring these animals ), it is advisable to use it only after you see a deer that you are not willing to shoot. Once you have done so, you will notice that it doesn’t scare them and you will observe their reactions. Be sure to use the most suitable calls, otherwise the animals will get suspicious.

The best advice possible is to hunt whenever you have the possibility. Experience is crucial, only by going out there in the wilderness you will learn more about their habitat, feeding habits and other characteristics that you will eventually use in your advantage. We strongly suggest that you follow our advice and the next time you have the possibility to hunt, don’t hesitate, you know what they say: practice makes perfect and this is statement is entirely applicable for hunting not only whitetail deer but other animals as well.

When you are about to hunt in a new area, it is advisable to hunt at a new stand each day for a short period of time as this is the most efficient way to learn about the deer movement routes. If you spot a deer and shoot it and afterwards you jump it up a very short distance from the position you have made the shot, it is advisable to stand back and give it time to take its last breath, if you shot it during the late hours of the day it is recommended to wait overnight.

If you plan on hunting whitetail deer with a bow, experienced hunters recommend doing it from a tree stand because it is way more efficient in comparison with hunting from ground level. Another advice, use only one pin because it is easier to aim high or low on the whitetail deer than attempt to remember to use a specific one when the large one walks out.

We hope that our suggestions will come in hand and on your first attempts on hunting these animals you will get at least decent results. Remember; practice every time you have the chance.

This is the fifth step in the how to build a deer stand series.

Attach two beams on either side of the tree limbs to be used for bracing the platform. Hoist the platform with help from another person. Secure the platform to the bracing beams. Next, brace the platform corners to the back of the tree limb for additional support.

Attach a ladder to the platform, not the tree. If installing a railing, make it at least 2 feet in height.

Enjoy your completed deer stand.

This is the fourth how to build a deer stand post

Put flooring on the platform by using 1 x 6-inch boards. Spacing between these boards will allow for rain drainage and deter rotting longer. Use 10-penny nails to attach the floor boards only on the ends for flexibility.
